Often times you hear the words “web design” and “web development”, but what do they really mean? How do they differ? Let us help shed some light on the two.
Web Design
Web design is the visual aesthetics, also known as the “front-end”, of the website. This requires creativity and an eye for what looks good and what doesn’t. Web design goes hand-in-hand with graphic design, as well as the ability to create a user-friendly site that those who visit will not be confused by. Often times, web designers are also web developers because knowing both is the only real way to create an awesome website.
Web Development
Web development is the “back-end” of the website that requires more programming and technical knowledge. The development of a website is very important because it tells the site itself how to function. This can be as broad as what page you land on when you click a menu item, to something as detailed at the way your site acts on different web browsers. This is done through HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and other coding languages.
Both of these fields are equally used and equally important. If you have a site that’s being built by only a designer or only a developer, you’re most likely going to have a sub-par website for your business. Make sure that your web designer knows both ends of the spectrum if you want a great site.
